1. How to answer “Tell me about yourself”

Goal: Showcase your professional journey succinctly.
Strategy: Use the Present-Past-Future framework.

  • Present: Current role and key achievement.
  • Past: Relevant experience leading to this point.

Future: Why are you excited about this role?
Example:
“I’m a marketing manager with 5 years of experience scaling digital campaigns. At Company X, I grew organic traffic by 40% in a year. I want to leverage my analytical skills in a data-driven role like this one.”

2. Why are you interested in this position?

Goal: Demonstrate alignment with the company’s mission/values.
Strategy: Research the company’s

  • Recent projects/news.
  • Culture (Glassdoor/website)
  • Job description keywords (Chatgpt)

Example:
“Your focus on sustainability aligns with my passion for eco-friendly tech. I admire your recent initiative to reduce carbon footprints, and I’d love to contribute my supply chain expertise.”

3. What are your strengths?

Goal: Match strengths to the job requirements.
Strategy: Pick 2-3 skills from the job description and provide proof.
Example:

4. What is your weakness?

Goal: Show self-awareness and growth.
Strategy: Use the “Weakness + Improvement” formula. Avoid red flags (ie, I’m always late).
Example:
“I tend to over-prepare, which can slow initial progress. I’ve learned to set time limits for research and prioritize action.”

5. Tell me about overcoming a challenge.

Goal: Highlight problem-solving and resilience.
Strategy: Use Situation Task Action Result (STAR).
Example:
“When our team missed a deadline (Situation), I led a sprint to reorganize tasks (Action), delivering the project 2 days early (Result).”

6. Why are you leaving your current job?

Goal: Stay positive and forward-focused.
Strategy: Frame it as growth, not criticism.
Example:
“I’ve learned a lot in my current role, but I’m ready for a challenge that aligns more with my long-term goals in [specific skill/industry].”

7. Why should we hire you?

Goal: Summarize your unique value.
Strategy: Combine skills, experience, and passion.
Example:
“My 3 years in SaaS sales taught me to pivot strategies quickly, like when I exceeded quota by 35% amid market shifts. I’m excited to bring this agility to your team.”

8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Goal: Show ambition and alignment with the company.
Strategy: Link growth to their opportunities.
Example:

Strategy: Highlight adaptability + collaboration.
Example:
“I believe in servant leadership, removing blockers for my team while encouraging autonomy. I hold weekly 1:1s to support growth.”

10. What are your salary expectations?

Goal: Avoid underselling or pricing yourself out of the market. Companies often have larger hiring budgets than promotion budgets.
Strategy: Give a range based on market research (Glassdoor and PayScale).
Example:
“Based on my research, I’m targeting XY. I’m open to discussion based on the full benefits package. Is that in your budget range?”
